John Hilary’s The Poverty of Capitalism: Economic Meltdown and the Struggle for What Comes Next (Pluto, 2013) was launched in style at London’s Firebox Cafe last month.
On the evening of Monday 21st October, well over 60 people packed into the radical cafe to embark upon an evening of wine, good food and interesting political discussion. Speaking on a panel with John was Doreen Massey, an Emeritus Professor of critical geography at the Open University; Hilary Wainwright, Editor of Red Pepper; and Dr Francisco Dominguez, Chair of the Venezuela Solidarity Campaign.
They each spoke for around 15 minutes on the themes of the book, before the evening moved into a Q&A.
For those of you who weren’t there, we decided to film the event. Embedded below is the video of each speaker, and there is a full audio, including the Q&A. Enjoy! And don’t forget, you can buy the book for just £13 (that’s 10% off) including free UK P&P, from our website. Just click here.
