NEWS: Two Canadians arrested in Egypt, locked up without grounds since Friday – join campaign to get them freed

On Friday August 16 two Canadians, medical doctor Tarek Loubani and filmmaker John Greyson, were arrested by Egyptian police in Cairo. Several later, they are still being held in Egyptian prison. Family and friends are calling for pressure on Egyptian authorities to immediately release Tarek and John, and for equal pressure on Canadian authorities to publicly and unequivocally demand their IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

Existing information suggests that Tarek and John walked into a police station in Cairo to ask for directions and were detained. No charges for this transgression have been communicated to us and none are remotely plausible. Straightforward public statements urging Egyptian authorities to immediately release these widely respected community members (and on Canadian authorities to insist on this) are welcome. So are direct emails and phone calls to Egyptian and Canadian authorities.

Further details and calls for action will be available as we know more. All information is being collected and posted on a newly dedicated website: http://tarekandjohn.com/
