Class Struggle in Time Magazine!

After axing 500 jobs worldwide only two months ago in a very in-vogue austerity drive, ageing giant of International news gossip Time Magazine has published an article claiming that we are currently seeing a return to Marx and furthermore that his relevance will grow unabated if austerity, wage repression and social stratification are exacerbated.

The article, by the Economics and Asia correspondent Michael Schuman argues that unless policy makers can act to ensure what he calls ‘fair economic opportunity’ then we might have to put up with workers of the world actually uniting and changing things for the better!

We’ve put together a list of some of our top titles on Marx, Marxism and the current economic crisis for those who want to read more.

The Failure of Capitalist Production

Underlying Causes of the Great Recession

Andrew Kliman

Distinctive and detailed account of the current economic crisis, identifying it as a crisis of capitalism caused by long-term falling profit rates

“One of the very best of the rapidly growing series of works seeking to explain our economic crisis. … The scholarship is exemplary and the writing is crystal clear. Highly recommended! “ – Professor Bertell Ollman, New York University, author of Dance of the Dialectic

“Clear, rigorous and combative. Kliman demonstrates that the current economic crisis is a consequence of the fundamental dynamic of capitalism, unlike the vast bulk of superficial contemporary commentary that passes for economic analysis.” – Rick Kuhn, Deutscher Prize winner, Reader in Politics at the Australian National University

“Larson adds a critical component to the policy debate about financial reform by explaining why the systemically dangerous institutions (SDIs) — the “too big to fail” banks — imperil our democracy as well as our economy. They are ticking time bombs certain to cause great damage unless we follow Larson’s advice.” – William Black, Associate Professor of Economics and Law, University of Missouri-Kansas City, author of The Best Way to Rob a Bank is to Own One
