Book Review: Dave Arthur’s ‘Bert: The Life and Times of A. L. Lloyd’

Dave Arthur’s wonderful biography of A. L. ‘Bert’ Lloyd has been reviewed in the annual Folk Music Journal. The publication is the organ of the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS), and is available in hardcopy or through paid access via their website.

It’s a great extended review, by Steve Roud, with a number of choice passages. We’ve reproduced the concluding paragraph to give you some indication of why you should immediately go out and get a copy.

It is a measure of Lloyd’s importance in our field that this will not be the last word on his life and work, but it is a measure of Dave Arthur’s considerable achievement that no one in future will be able to write about Bert, or the folk revival, without reading this book  first.
